Carmelita L. Acosta

Mrs. Acosta was born in Puerto Princesa City in 1944. For college, she attended the Holy Trinity College in that city, where she graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education in 1968. She began her career in education in 1963 as an elementary school teacher at the Nana Pilot School. In 1988, she became Teacher-in-Charge, and in 2001 held the position of Head Teacher.

One of the most well-loved teachers in El Nido, Mrs. Acosta retired in 2004 after more than 40 years of service. She served as Barangay Chair of Barangay Sibaltan in El Nido in 2008-2013 and is largely instrumental in leading the community in the establishment and continued protection of the Community Managed Marine Area (CMMA) in Sibaltan.

She is the President of the people’s organization Mahalin, Ingatan, Yaman ay Napapakinabangan managing the Sibaltan CMMA, and serves as Treasurer of Sibaltan Heritage Council.
